Project ACE (Alumnae-Collegiate Exchange)
The Southern Region is proud to continue support of Project ACE. This is a national program from the National Second Vice President and National Membership Services Committee. Project ACE is a component of P.A.S.S. (Preserving and Sustaining our Sisterhood). The two focus areas of Project ACE for the Southern Region will be BRIDGES and Transitioning: Fulfilling the Lifetime Commitment.
BRIDGES (Building Relationships in Delta . . . Guiding Every Step)
This program is designed to strengthen the bond between alumnae and collegiate chapters. Chapters are asked to host a variety of internal and external programs collaboratively. Chapters with the best BRIDGES program will be recognized at National Convention. Examples of programs include, but not limited to, the following:
- Collegiate chapter may host a technology workshop for the alumnae chapter. Teach basic computer skills by reviewing the use of the Internet and email and how to prepare chapter reports using word processing and spreadsheet software. Introduce the chapter to group email sites, such as Yahoo Groups (http://groups.yahoo.com/) or Google Groups (http://groups.google.com/). Sorors from the collegiate chapter may be paired with sorors from the alumnae chapter that wish to receive technology assistance through out the sorority year. These sorors are called "Tech Buddies".
- Alumnae chapters may host a career development workshop for collegiate chapters. Review employable skills, education requirements for various careers, interview techniques, and what to do once employed. This could evolve into a Financial Fortitude program and alumnae sorors could discuss the management of finances when you are employed and what should be done at an early age to prepare for retirement. Pair sorors in the alumnae chapter with sorors in the collegiate chapter that are in similar fields of study. These sorors should maintain communication throughout the sorority year, especially as the collegiate soror prepares for graduate school or applies for employment.
- Chapters may host sisterhood activities together. Here are a few ideas:
- Founders Day – Chapters can do an activity together on January 13th of each year.
- Chapter History – Chapters can host a joint DID on the history of each chapter and how each chapter has affected the history of the local community.
- Delta Cook Off – Sorors can submit recipes for a joint cookbook. Require the dishes to be healthy as part of our Summit IV initiatives. The soror with the healthiest and best tasting dish wins a prize. All members get a copy of the cookbook as a keepsake.
- In the Key of D-S-T - Chapters can get together to review songs of our Delta heritage. Make it educational by reviewing what songs are done standing and sitting and how we should hold our hands for each song (without the book). Make it fun by including traditional chapter songs, chants, and steps.
- Chapters may host public programs together. Identify a social issue in your local community and try to address it together. Alumnae chapters may include collegiate sorors in activities with Delta Academy or Delta GEMS.
Transitioning: Fulfilling the Lifetime Commitment
In an effort to assist with the transition from collegiate to alumnae, a transition guide (Red Book) will be prepared for graduating sorors. The Red Book will include a Graduation Form, Transfer of Dues Form, information on alumnae chapters, and instructions on the transition process.
Alumnae chapters will be asked to submit a registration form for the Red Book that outlines when and where they meet, their policy on dues for transitioning sorors, and information on chapter programs and demographics. Alumnae chapters will be asked to plan activities to assist with transitioning and to include graduating seniors in their Sisterhood Month planning. The alumnae chapter with the best transitioning program will be recognized at National Convention.
Collegiate chapters will be asked to distribute the Graduation Form to seniors in February. A completed copy will be kept by the chapter with a copy to the Project ACE Coordinator. Collegiate chapters will be asked to track their recent graduates for one year and report how many sorors transition into alumnae chapters from their chapter. The collegiate chapter with the highest percentage of graduates that join an alumnae chapter within the first year will be recognized at National Convention.
